Early in 2013 Codie King, director of the Wailoa Center, contacted me to ask if I would be interested in putting together a plein air show. WOULD I EVER! My vision: A true community show open to all Big Island plein air artists who wished to participate, limited only by space, bringing together painters from both sides of the island. I spoke to Codie, I spoke to Bob Appleman and Richard Rochkovsky (who headed up plein air groups in Kohala and Kona). All were enthusiastic. In January 2014, 40 artists participated in the show resulting from those conversations: BIG ISLAND PLEIN AIR. We displayed over 200 paintings and received rave reviews, both from the community and from fellow artists. And... we were invited back for the Summer of 2016!
Please join us for the second BIG ISLAND PLEIN AIR show, June 3rd - 29th, 2016
