Pastels, Sunny Seal and Christine Ahia. Saturday Jan. 18, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
Talk, demo and try your hand at pastel painting. Find out why it's called "painting" and experience its versatility and ease of use. Sunny Seal will be the artist who will start by giving some background information and show some techniques and then materials will be available to try out. At 11:30 Christine Ahia will also talk about painting with pastels and those interested may keep on with their painting and others may sample using pastels to blend, crosshatch or otherwise work on a surface. Come experience it!

Variations on a Theme: Drawing to Paint, Chuck Snyder. Saturday Jan. 25, 11:00 am to noon
Chuck Snyder has been drawing on location for many years and has developed a technique he'll share. He creates a strong line drawing on location, which he can then reproduce by photocopy onto heavy stock. He usually makes several copies so that he has enough versions of the image to experiment with, which he does by varying the the subject (painting the scene as it would look on a stormy day, or a clear sky late in the day, or a morning mist) and by varying the medium (oil, watercolor, gouache, enamel, mixed, etc.). Chuck has found that having several copies of the original drawing also enhances the teaching process. Students are able to experiment without fear of "ruining" the original. He will be demonstrating several drawing techniques, and would be glad to see people's work for critique.
Below are some of Chuck's drawing, done on location at the Wailoa Center as other artists conduct their demos! Each are done in a different style and media or combination of mediums, including acrylic paint, color pencil, crayons, enamel paint markers and gouache.
